Olivia Proclaims her Ambitions for the Disabled
Gryffe Valley Rotary club was delighted to welcome back Olivia Giles to a recent meeting. Olivia, who hailed originally from Brookfield, was struck down by meningitis some years ago and lost her feet and hands. She responded by dedicating herself to improving awareness of disease and raising funds to help combat its effects. Her efforts were recognised by the club's first award of a Paul Harris Fellowship and more recently by the award of an OBE in the Queens Birthday Honours list.
Olivia addressed the club on the 500 Miles charity (www.500miles.co.uk) which she set up in 2008. She described the joy and relief she experienced when she was able to walk again after her illness
