The weekend of 15th and 16th July 2017 saw the Rotary Club of Bolton Daybreak joining with other Bolton Clubs to support the Iron Man competition. This is the ninth time the contest has been held in the town and it seems likely to remain in Bolton for a few years more.
On Saturday 15th July the main event was preceded by an Iron Kids set of races in Bolton town centre. Despite poor weather the children taking part had a great experience.
The following day the adults got into gear. 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling and 26.2 miles of running in one day are not for the faint-hearted! Daybreak Club members organised a water station near Middlebrook retail park - located just after the athletes had transferred from their bikes to begin their marathon distance run.
It is expected that the event will help raise significant funds for charity which will be distributed by the Rotary Clubs.
