FINAL SALUTE TO ANLORY KELTIC TRAILBLAZER LEGEND JAKE
15 Apri 2012 - 25 NOVEMBER 2024
As a show dog Jake an Irish Setter qualified regularly for Crufts through gaining 1st places in both Championship and Open Shows and as best Veteran in Breed. But he was also a fully working Service boy too - trained in Search and Rescue having saved both human and animal lives over the years.
Over a lengthy period of time his owner Sally Mohan,Community Leader at Aireborough Rotary has organised 'Jakeathons' raising several £1000s for the Rotary Foundation, Rotary's own Charity as well as for other charities. These began initially as part of Club members' attendance at the Annual Rotary Scarborough Conferences. They took place on the beach, the promenade and along the bays. Each year members were asked to sponsor Jake by estimating different aspects of his actions from steps made to dogs encountered on each walk. Jakeathons then moved to local favourite venues including Goldent Acre Park, Nunroyd Park and final Commemorative walks at one of his favourites Roundhay Park. This event was attended by many members and friends who knew him and some who did not.
In Sally's own heartfelt words: 'Our dogs teach us more than we could ever have expected and love us more than we could ever have hoped and that's why we miss them so very much. Our dogs just sense and know how we feel and totally accept us in whatever emotional or physical state we appear to them. They support us with their independent spirit, loyalty. trust. friendship and in his case those wonderful expressive Irish eyes. Jake was always by my side - my constant companion. Every moment of his life was a gift. I will always be so very proud of him - he was deeply loved and is greatly missed' .
At a recent Aireborough Rotary Club meeting a cheque for £750 was presented at Sally's request to Sarah Greenhalgh of the Yorkshire/North Lincs Dogs' Trust?
