Five go a tasking

As usual Aireborough pulled its weight at the 2014 Leeds Technology Tournament serving on the Committee and supplying two judges in Brian Whitham and Barry Wilkinson plus John Knaggs, Brian Waite and Robert Mirfield stewarding the Foundation teams.

The teams had to devise, plan, build and develop a model vehicle capable of travelling across a ravine on a ropeway, using an electric motor, to deliver a rescue package to the other side. Almost all the teams completed the task which was made harder for the Intermediate and Advanced teams.

Eight schools attended bringing 22 teams or 88 pupils. The largest group were Foundation with 13 teams and they supplied two winners: Cockburn as best in group and Farnley Academy, who won the prize for Innovation, producing the most original solution out of all the teams! Intermediate winners were Silcoates School and Pudsey Grangefield triumphed in the Advanced category.

The sole disappointment for Aireborough was that for a variety of reasons only last year's group winners Horsforth were able to enter teams from the schools with which we actively work.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Tom Murray attended and Rotarian Michael Fox, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Yorkshire presented the prizes.
