MEETING THE CHALLENGE
For several years the Rotary Club of Aireborough has given sixth form pupils from four local secondary schools the chance to attend a Youth Leadership Award programme held at Hebden Hey in the Hardcastle Crags Valley.
Last weekend Hannah Childs and Conner Hulme, both from Horsforth School, completed the course made up of four very different outdoor team exercises, including raft building, with the added enjoyment of 6.30 a.m. starts and late finishes. Normality was resumed with a course ending participatory concert. Driving them home Brian Waite commented
more Our first foray into the Scootathon arena failed to ignite but thanks to the initiative of St. Margaret's, Horsforth staff all 440 school pupils earned their very own gold medals. Each pupil completed a triathlon of hula hooping, skipping and scootering.
more Encouraged by their parents a group of pupils from Belle Vue School, Bradford raised individually £800 to make a hands-on visit to a school in Gambia. Ndungu Kebbeh Basic Cycle School suffered from very limited facilities the visit would help improve.
more As usual Aireborough pulled its weight at the 2014 Leeds Technology Tournament serving on the Committee and supplying two judges in Brian Whitham and Barry Wilkinson plus John Knaggs, Brian Waite and Robert Mirfield stewarding the Foundation teams.
more On Tuesday 26 November at 9.38 p.m. precisely, Hannah Childs and Conner Hulme, both from Horsforth School, Tom Corina from Benton Park and Chris Penny from St. Mary's, Menston completed formally with flying colours the summer challenges given to them.
more For the third year running the Educational Committee organised a heat for the RIBI Young Musicians annual competition inviting participants from the four local Secondary Schools. Benton Park School was once again the venue.
more The success of the Aireborough heat of the Young Musician competition 2014 owed a great deal to both behind the scenes and front of house activity.
back Looking back at another rewarding year and forward to what can be done to build on the Club' excellent and diverse activities with Airebrough's young people.
