Shaun Vickers, Centre Manager received our cheque, good luck with the fundraising and carry on with your vital role in the local community.

Dalton Leisure Centre is a not-for-profit organisation run to support the local community but offering its excellent family-friendly facilities to the wider general public to enjoy.

Dalton Leisure Centre in Cumbria is at serious risk of closure due to high energy costs, repair bills, and financial pressure. Despite securing a crucial £50,000 emergency funding boost from Westmorland and Furness Council in late 2025, the facility still requires significant further funding to remain operational.

  • Financial Crisis: The centre, which has served the community for over 35 years, is facing a funding gap to cover operating costs. The manager, Shaun Fisher, reported the need to raise an additional £50,000 to avoid closing in 2026.
  • Contributing Factors: Key issues include rising energy prices, increased National Insurance, and necessary equipment repairs.
  • Emergency Support: The council's £50,000 grant (split between the council and Furness Locality Board) was designed to help the centre manage through the end of 2025.
  • Community Support: A petition has been launched, and community efforts, including local fundraising, are underway to try and secure the centre's future.

The centre, managed by a charitable trust, is actively seeking support to bridge its monthly deficits.
