Bikers’ Presentation Evening

TDF prizes handed out

People from the Furness area have been celebrated for their collective fundraising success in this year's Tour de Furness.

Hosted by the Rotary Club of Furness at Roose Conservative Club, the presentation evening was attended by over 90 guests.

The principle benefactor of the Tour de Furness 2024 was St Mary's Hospice with Heidi Bowron accepting a cheque for £5,116 raised by the cyclists.

Club secretary Graham Postlethwaite said: "We were also given the good news that that amount will be increased after Spirit Energy agreed to match-funding the amount raised by their team for the hospice.

"They raised £2,743 and won the Bill Bartlett Memorial Trophy for 2024 so the hospice will shortly have an added Christmas present."

The youngest competitor and winner of the Junior Section was Alfie Swallow, aged eight, who raised £155 and was handed a prize by club president Nigel Johnson.

"For 2025, we will be adding to our routes with a testing ride through the Duddon valley and over Wrynose Pass, which will be the Vattenfall 71 mile Challenge," said Graham.

"We are extremely grateful to all of our sponsors, in particular Vattenfall. Without their help, we would not be able to run this event and we are looking forward to 2025 and our 30th anniversary ride."
