THE Rotary Club of Furness has handed a huge sum of money to the mother of a girl with a rare condition so she can buy a new chair to make a difference to her life.
3 year old Mia Amor Morgan from Barrow, has hydrocephalus.
She was born with excess fluid in her brain and she has other physical health conditions.
The Rotary Club learnt of her mother Sarah Forster's appeal to get Mìa Amor a new chair which would increase her independence at nursery through a Mail article.
Sarah had set up an internet funding page which raised a sizeable amount but not enough to buy the chair.
Rotary club Secretary Graham Postlethwaite said: "Our club decided to step in to enable her to buy the chair.
"Sarah visited the club and told us Mia Amor's story, of the operations she has endured and of her progress since joining nursery."
"Mia is non-verbal and she cannot sit up on her own. Her nursery, Ramsden Robins on Thwaite Street, could not afford to pay for the chair and the cost was not being covered by the council or the NHS".
Sarah set a target of £2,853 on her GoFundMe page, and the donation from the Rotary Club made sure she met her target.
Sarah said "We now have all the money for the chair for Mìa to have in nursery.
"I can't express just how much this means to us. We are so thankful to everyone that has donated on the GoFundMe page and to the Rotary Club of Furness for making it possible for us to get the chair.
"We will now order the chair and hopefully it will arrive before Mìa goes back to nursery in September. This is going to benefit her so much when she goes back".
Furness Rotary Club president Nigel Johnson presented a cheque for £1455.00 to Sarah at a recent meeting.
"The club was delighted to make up the shortfall so that the chair could be in place by the start of the new school term, but we couldn't have done so without the support of each and every person who donates to the events which we run.
"Our big fundraiser is the Tour de Furness which takes place this year on Sunday 1st September and there is still time for people to support it."
