Local children were in for a treat!

Full steam ahead for the big day!

Each year the Rotary Club of Furness joins forces with the Rotary Club of Barrow-in-Furness to take a group of local schoolchildren and their teachers/helpers to enjoy an adventure in the Lake District in an event called 'Rotary Kids Out'.

2024 marked the resumption of that tradition following an enforced break due to Covid.

5 children from each of 10 schools along with their teacher/helper travelled to Lakeside Aquarium where they enjoyed a 45-minute escorted tour of the Aquarium by the very helpful staff of Lakeside. All the children were then treated to an ice-cream or ice-lolly before they climbed aboard the vintage steam train "Princess" for the 20-minute trip to Haverthwaite where all enjoyed their picnic lunch.

Unfortunately the weather turned just as the party arrived at Haverthwaite. It rained for 20 mins, but it wasn't enough to dampen the kids' spirits as they explored and played in the park.

At 2pm the children joined their coach for the trip home, with Rotary Club members praising the children for being extremely well-behaved.

The trip was fully funded by the Rotary Club of Barrow-in-Furness and the Rotary Club of Furness.

The pictures shown were taken with the kind permission of the parents and schools involved.
