Club visits Cando FM

Wed, Aug 31st 2022 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Members were invited to tour a radio station which does great work to benefit the local community.

Each month Past President Brian Boyd joins with members of the Barrow, Furness Peninsula, and Ulverston Rotary clubs to talk on Cando FM about the work that the clubs do, and the pleasure that members receive by offering 'service above self'.

The Furness club was recently invited to tour the studios on Abbey Road in Barrow.

Members were very impressed by the facilities offered by Cando FM, and the work they do for the benefit of the local community.

You can catch the programme at 3.00 pm on the last Saturday of each month. Tune into 106.3 in the Barrow area or 107.3 in Ulverston and beyond.

The unique feature of CANDOFM Community Radio is that it directly involves members of the community in its management and operation to create the service. The differences of community as opposed to commercial radio is the number of contributors.
Currently there are over forty active volunteers ranging in age from ten to sixty five. Taxi drivers to retired police, students, graduates, working and unemployed. They broadcast live, pre-recorded in the studio, remotely at home or school to put together the Ofcom required programming output. Each of the volunteers is able to champion local music or sport or community issues motivated by their passions and interests.
