More trees for the area

Club adds to the trees already planted to help the environment

The Rotary Club of Furness planted 250 trees at Lesh Lane, Barrow in Furness, in a joint effort with the town's two other clubs, the Rotary Club of Barrow in Furness, and the Rotary Club of Furness Peninsula.

A cold morning, but the sun shone and the site had been well marked out and prepared by Rotarian Peter Rodell and Associate member Paul Littlewood from the Woodland Trust.

Oak, Hazel, Dogwood and a few Cherry trees were planted and the bulk of the planting was in the shape of the Rotary roundel.

A great collaborative effort, and thanks are due to Paul for sourcing all the trees and to Peter for strimming all of the planting areas beforehand.

The tree planting is part of an initiative started by Rotary the world over to plant 1.2 million trees, one for each Rotarian.

Why trees?

Trees absorb carbon dioxide as they grow and the carbon that they store in their wood helps slow the rate of global warming. They reduce wind speeds and cool the air as they lose moisture and reflect heat upwards from their leaves.

So now you know!
