It was all action – well almost – at the Dane Avenue home of the Co-op Bowling Club when Furness took on Ulverston in the first round of the district crown-green bowling competition.
Play started with two doubles matches, followed by three singles. To save time the games were played up to a winning score of 11 instead of 21 so that we got home while it was still light!
Furness beat Ulverston in one of the doubles but lost the other. It was a similar story in the first two games of the singles, so all rested on the final game when President Martin took on Terry Horne from Ulverston. It was a close fought game with Martin edging it to give Furness an overall victory by three games to two.
By the time the game came to a close most of the sandwiches had been eaten, but Brian took pity on Martin and Terry, putting aside their nourishment.
A great evening of Rotary friendship with Furness moving on to the next round when they are away to the Upper Eden club at Kirkby Stephen.
Furness were represented by Martin McLeavy, Brian Hetherington, Mike Silver, Gordon Turner, Dave Ward, Fred Winkfield, and Ron Duxbury.
