Last Sunday thanks to Geoff and Lorretta James 15 of us enjoyed a trip to blackpool to see the infamous Ken Dodd....
Firstly we congregated at the Premier Lodge Inn where Chalkie managed to get the last available room, from there we travelled in a fleet of taxis, which turned up promptly and did not rob us !!! They took us to Topping Street to AJ's bistro, who opened specially for us, the picture (taken by Lawrence) shows us all fed and watered (or rather) wined and ready for the show.
Just down the road and round the bend (appropriate turn of phrase for the night) we found the Grand Theatre all resplendent following a lottery funded refurbishment. There we took up a couple of rows in the gallery and waited for the show to begin.
Promptly at 7:30 the curtain went up and firstly the Diddy Men were on stage accompanied by a keyboard player and drummer (they were on stage for most of the evening, night and day...for the performance that followed)
Ken Dodd supported by two other acts entertained us more or less none stop for the next 6 hours with just one interval which we needed more than he did.
A super night, thanks to Geoff who is currently seeking out another show entertainment for us...many thanks from one exhausted and thoroughly rib tickled rotarian.
