On what turned out to be an absolutely stunning late summer—or is it now autumn, day we had over 230 riders turn up at Roose Consevative Club to join in our 2006 Tour de Furness. Clearly all Bill’s hard work preparing for the even has paid off, no doubt helped by our publicity machine—John “Chalkie” Chalker who has more or less on his own trod around the south of the county visiting Tourist Information Offices, pubs and any one who would let him across the threshold and left them a poster to put on their notice board. The amount of sponsor ship we can expect is still being calculated but I think we can confidently expect it to exceed last years magnificent total of £15,000.00. Well done Bill Nickson, not to mention his family who where all there staunchly supporting him.
One guy taking part was not content in cycling the 50 mile Coniston route and so he did it twice, and still came in before some riders. One I guess he lapped was our own new member Keith Wilson, who unfortunately had an accident with his cycle—the back wheel collapsed. Now Keith was that because you were riding hard or just a little too heavy !! Anyone else would have collected their bike up and called it a day—not Keith, he phoned his wife to bring him his other bike and then continued to finish !!!
An absolutely super day, which everyone seemd to enjoy, thank you Bill.
