Daisy (not her real name) Wins Polio Bear “Edward” at the County Show

About Daisy and the Polio Bear:-

Daisy very generously took part in the “Name the Teddy Bear” competition, organised by the Rotary Club of Tynedale, at the Bank Holiday Northumberland County Show.  Because of the Teddy Bear’s handsome red jacket she decided that “Edward” had to be the right name to choose.  How right she was too!!

Rotarian Clive Robertson, President Elect of the Rotary Club of Tynedale, was delighted to present “Edward” to Daisy in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her family, all of whom were equally thrilled with the latest family addition.

Daisy attends the in North Shields where she actively supports the school’s Eco Warrior club and learns about the environment, recycling and Fair Trade. The club has even adopted an endangered Snow Leopard in .  She is also a keen member of the Tynemouth Swimming Club.

Daisy and her family, including little brother and dog, visited the Northumberland County Show for the very first time this Bank Holiday Monday, travelling all the way by train.  They had a great day enjoying the amazing variety of events, especially the horses and other animals, especially as it was the start of the schools half term holiday.

The “Name the Teddy Bear” competition is now a regular event at the , and we would like to thank all the other children and parents who entered the competition. By joining in the fun, all the donations will now be used to help other children around the World to be protected from the paralysing effects of Polio.

For many years, hundreds of Rotary Clubs, like ours, have been trying to eradicate the Polio disease from all the countries in the World.  We are gradually succeeding to win the battle against Polio and right now there are only three countries where it remains.  What’s more, Bill Gates, of Microsoft fame, has pledged to donate another two pounds for every pound donated to the Rotary organisation’s “End Polio Now” campaign.

About our 2016 Charity Raffle for Local Causes.

Tynedale Rotary club’s 2016 Charity Raffle for Local Causes.

The Rotary Club of Tynedale would also like to express their sincere thanks to the People and Traders of Tynedale who have displayed amazing generosity in their support of our 2016 Charity Raffle, which we also held over the Bank Holiday weekend, initially in Corbridge and then at the ever popular Northumberland County Show at Bywell.

We were amazed to find that ALL our Raffle Tickets, which we had deliberately limited to twelve hundred, were sold before the end of the , such was the public’s generosity.

The enthusiasm for our Raffle was, once again, in no mean part, due to the superb quality and number of Raffle Prizes that had been donated to our Rotary Club’s Charity Raffle by the Traders of Tynedale, to whom we are indeed truly thankful.

As a result of this magical combination of People and Traders, the Raffle donations will now enable us to provide that much more assistance to the various Local causes that we support in the Tynedale area, which is where it is needed most.

Donations received:-

Name the Teddy Bear (plus sale of “Wear your Crocus” flowers) for the  “End Polio Now” campaign, raised Approx £200, which, with the Bill Gates factor becomes £600.

The 2016 Charity Raffle donations amounted to £1200, for local causes.
