Over 70 members, honorary members, partners, friends and guests attended Bewdley Rotary's 30th Anniversary Charter Night on 7th February 2020 at Stone Manor, the birthplace of Bewdley Rotary Club as it was where, in 1989, the initial interest meetings were held.
Highlight of the evening were presentations of Paul Harris Fellowships to Bewdley Rotarian Robbie Baker, better known as 'Bob the Builder' in recognition of his stalwart service and hands on practicality to the work of the Club and our local community activities and to Becky Newbold, a Teacher at The Bewdley School. Becky’s Paul Harris Fellowship was awarded in recognition of the work she has done in establishing two Interact (Junior Rotary) Clubs in The Bewdley School and for her achievement in bringing together the very successful Global Conference at the school in November of last year, with which the Club were delighted to be part.
A cheque for £2500 was presented for the Rotary 'End Polio Now' campaign. A further £5000 will be added to this donation by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation making the donation worth £7500. The majority of this was raised from the Polio Exhibition at Bewdley Museum in 2017 which was sponsored by A&H Construction and DRP Group, without whose generous support this donation would not have been possible.
Also attending were past President’s Ian Shakespeare, Derek Killingworth and Phil Gould, who unfortunately are no longer able to be members, but still maintain their interest in the Club.
We were also pleased to welcome three of our Interact Club members who presented a video of the Global Happiness Conference made by students at Bewdley School.
It was a memorable evening and thanks must go to all involved in the organisation, but in particular Neil Hardwick, Graham Bullock and Konrad Nofer. Thanks also to Colin Hill for the photos.
