The Dorchester Casterbridge Rotary Christmas Draw has been running since 2004 and during this time it has raised more than £180,000.
Members of the club raise sponsorship for the draw from local businesses, which provides the prize money and covers all operating costs, such as the licence and purchase of the draw tickets from the printers. All prizes are monetary which enables winners to be paid out swiftly, no matter where they are in the Country.
Participants (which must be small local groups or not-for-profit organisations) sell the draw tickets which are in books of 5, these are sold at £1 per ticket, money and ticket stubs are returned to Casterbridge Rotary Club.
The Rotary members endeavour to add a bonus to the amount raised by a participating charity or group, through selling tickets at Dobbies Garden Centre, Owermoigne and at the Dorchester Christmas Cracker event.
Every penny raised by an organisation selling draw tickets will be returned to that organisation together with any bonus from the Casterbridge Rotary Club sales. (This is usually an additional 5% to 15%)
