30 years as Bognor's largest sport event
Preparation for the 2026 Bognor Prom 10K Road Race are well under way. Over the 30 years this event has raised over £700k for many charities and we would like to thank our many sponsors and runners for there support.
This year we're celebrating 30 years of the event, which takes place on Sunday 17th May. It's looking to become the most successful event so far, and the Junior Fun Run is due to sell out quicker than ever before. Those running this year's main 10K also have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative T-Shirt to celebrate this huge milestone for the town and local charities.
The event committee would like to thank all the local businesses and organisations that have supported the event over the years, including: The Arena Sports Centre, Reynolds, Fostering West Sussex, South Coast Sports, and Unique Workwear Printing and Embroidery to name a few.
Not only is the event a big one on the sporting calendar, but the event is run by volunteers and all profits are distributed to selected local charities throughout the following year.
This year's charity partner is St Wilfrid's Hospice. A spokesperson from St Wilfrid's Hospice says
"St Wilfrid’s Hospice is excited to be part of the Bognor Prom 10K Road Race and extremely appreciative of being the charity partner for such a great event – and receiving 10 free places. This means our incredible supporters will be able to run on our behalf and raise valuable funds towards the running of the Hospice and the provision of palliative and end-of-life care to people in our local community."
This year also sees local photographer and supporter of the event Lee Taylor from 1981 Photography put down his camera and pick up some trainers as he plans to run the 10K for the first time. Lee is in training for the event but admits the challenge will be hard
Entries for both the Junior Fun Run and 10K are still open. Please check out www.bognorprom10k.org to secure your entry today.
The race starts at 10.00 am from the southern end of Silverstone Avenue, West Park and finishes at the same spot. There will be the usual warm-up session at 10am. Chairmen of Felpham and Aldwick Parish Councils, and the Mayor of Bognor Regis Town Council, have been invited.
The unchanged route follows Kings Parade, the Promenade, the Esplanade east of the pier, Gloucester Road around Butlins, Upper Bognor Road, Admiralty Road, Blakes Road and Limmer Lane to rejoin the prom for the return leg. Weather permitting, the Bognor Regis Concert Band will be playing at the bandstand, to give the runners encouragement.
Over 100 marshals will manage road junctions and the promenade, to ensure that the runners have a clear path, and Sussex ambulance will be in attendance. The Rotary Club has advised all properties lining the route of the rolling road closure. The marshals will reopen roads as soon as it is safe to do so, and motorists are requested to be patient while this once a year event passes through. Local residents and drivers are being encouraged to enter into the spirit of the day. The race will pass through Felpham village between 10.45 and 11.15. The prom will be the best vantage point, as the runners will be seen in both directions from 10.30 until about 11.45. All roads will be open again by midday, which is when the presentation of prizes will take place in West Park.
The Bognor Hotham Rotary Club and partners Tonezone are proud to organise this annual event for Bognor Regis and looks forward to seeing good support from local people to share the enjoyment and encourage the runners on.
