A record season of collections for local charities

The Rotary Club of Skipton Craven has declared the amount of money collected through the Great Skipton Santa Fun Run 2024, Christmas supermarket collections and the Santa Sleigh collections.

Sunday 24th November 2024 saw 2266 people taking to the streets of Skipton for the 15th Great Skipton Santa Fun Run, to raise money for Sue Ryder Manorlands, Marie Curie and local charities.

Meanwhile Santa and his sleigh took to the streets of Skipton and surrounding villages over 12 evenings and made appearances at Morrisons and Tesco over two weekends, in December.

The total amount raised from all the Christmas fundraising activities was just under £74100.

The Great Skipton Santa Fun Run raised a whopping £63,585 from sponsorship and anonymous donations and includes £5,600 from participating teams and individuals raised and sent direct to their nominated charities.

The Santa Supermarket collections at Morrisons and Tesco amounted to £1777 and the Santa sleigh £8705

Keith Drummond-Brassington, President of The Rotary Club of Skipton Craven said:

“Our Club’s motto is ‘Proud to be a part of the Skipton Community’, and last Christmas we very much felt the overwhelming support of the Skipton Community,  who turned out in their thousands to take part in the Great Skipton Santa Fun Run, came out into the streets with their children to greet Santa in his sleigh or met him in the supermarkets, and who gave generously to our collections in aid of local charities.

To the volunteers at our partnership charity Skipton Step into Action and all our Rotary Friends who helped us with our Christmas fundraising activities, we at the Rotary Club of Skipton Craven offer a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for your efforts.

We may be only a small Club, but we achieve great things; and we are always on the lookout for new members and more volunteers to support our activities - so why not get in touch?

A Very Happy New Year to the people of Skipton.”
