Last month, the Rotary Club of Southport Links ran their annual Technology Tournament. 16 teams from Southport College, KGV, Birkdale High School, Greenbank High School and Maghull High School met in the Media Hall at Birkdale High School for a day of problem solving. The teams had to make a machine to clear debris from a pipeline, with varying degrees of difficulty depending on the team's age, using a mix of wood, card, elastic bands, an electric motor and wire. This was probably the most difficult task the students had faced for many years in the tournament, but every team produced a machine that worked with varying degrees of success. Congratulations to the three winning teams, Southport College winning the senior category, Maghull High School. the Intermediate and Birkdale High School the Foundation category. Our thanks to Adrian Milner of Birkdale High School for hosting the tournament, and to all the staff from the schools and colleges for getting their teams to the school to take part in the tournament.
