Rotary Technology Tournament

Fri, Mar 6th 2009 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

The Rotary Technology Tournament will take place on Friday 6th March 2009 at Greenbank High School, Hastings Road, Southport.

The Rotary Technology Tournament is a national event which has as its objective the development of interest of Secondary School pupils in Science, Engineering and Technology.

This event, although it has been running throughout the UK over the last 7 years, is the first of its kind in District 1180 and will take place on Friday 6th March 2009. Greenbank High School have kindly agreed to host the event which will be held in their main hall.

We have arranged for 18 teams of four pupils from Secondary schools in Southport and District, including KGV and Southport College, to take part in a design and manufacture of a mechanism, the details of which will not be revealed until the day itself. We also hope to have a team of Secondary school teachers engaged in the same task

However, the emphasis is on a structured approach, developing team building and decision making, which will be judged not only in the final testing of the mechanism but in the manner that the task was tackled.

The event is sponsored by Lattimer, Precision Manufacturing Engineers of Shakespeare Street, Southport and we expect to have their Chief Executive giving out the prizes in the afternoon.

The Mayor of Sefton will be visiting during the morning and will spend time talking to the pupils.
