Reports on the progress of The Rotary Club of Southport Links Quiz Team in the 2012 - 2013 season
As defending Champions, The Rotary Club of Southport Links have a bye in the first round and entered the quiz in round 2.
In a change to previous years, a handicap system was introduced this year, and we started every quiz with a score of -24. Other handicaps were Oswestry are -12, St Asaph -6 and West Wirral -6. A rudimentary handicapping system, that made the quiz more challenging and interesting for our team members and the members of other handicapped teams.
Round 1 -- As defending champions the RC of Southport Links got a bye and moved straight on to round 2
Round 2 -- Played on November 27th 2012 against Maghull and Aughton. M&A scored 44 points, SL scored 104, reduced to 80 after the handicap of 24 was deducted. Southport Links progressed to Round 3
Round 3 Played on Jan 31st 2013, The Rotary Club of Southport Links won on the night 82 points to 63. However the 24 point handicap proved too much for the Southport Links team to surmount, and they went down by 5 points. Unfortunately, the transfer window closed just 30 minutes after the quiz ended, so the team were unable to buy in any new players! Roger Haydock was seen driving to Hartley's Garden Centre on the night, but was denied permission to talk to the team selectors.
Congratulations to Ormskirk Clocktower and hard luck RCSL - time to retake the trophy next year!
