Normally at the beginning of December Verwood Rotary works closely with the town Council to create a temporary Grotto for Father Christmas and his elves to allow the children of Verwood to see and talk to Santa.
This year, due to the Covid restrictions, there is no Christmas Extravaganza and therefore no Santa on the Green. However to ensure our little one's did not miss out a small team from Rotary worked with Forest FM to convert on of the Forest FM vans to a mobile Grotto. This allowed Santa to visit all the First schools in Verwood and Three legged Cross in order for the children to say hello and to post their letters to him.
It seems all the children had been very busy before hand and had spent time writing their letters to him during school time.
In total 814 children at the four First Schools, and Playgroups, that serve Verwood and its surrounds all saw Santa and left their lists with him on the 3rd and 4th December.
The Head Teachers were amazed at the attendance!! - two schools had 100% - and at another, a little lad who had a fallen and was sporting a right shiner wasn't going to the Doctors until he had seen Santa and given him his letter !!
Big thanks to the Verwood team of Tim, Steve, Mike, Ian and Sandra.
