This year as it is the commeration of 100 years of the end of the First World War. Verwood Town Council has been working with the Rotary Club to plan an even more moving tribute this year to remember those who lost their lives in defence of freedom and justice.
Rotarian Clive Grove has been working with the following organisations in order to create, collect and install over 2,500 poppies that have been used to decorate the railings around Verwood Memorial Hall.
Big thanks to the following contributors to the project
Verwood Knit & Natter Group
Verwood Arts & Crafts
Irvings Estate Agents
The Salvation Army
Verwood Twinning Association
Verwood Churches
The Heritage Centre
Verwood Town Council
plus many more anonymous individuals within the community who left poppies on Clive's doorstep
These contributed to a moving backdrop for the commemoration service held at Ferrett Green on Sunday 11th November.
At the start of the project the club committed to donate 50p per poppy (up to a max of £1,000) to the Royal British Legion. We are pleased to share that President Gary was able to present a cheque for £1,000 to Bob Richman at the gathering at Verwood Memorial Hall after the service.
