How Olives will change lives...................

With the aid of a District grant from The Rotary Foundation (the charitable arm of Rotary) the club was able to purchase carpets and artificial grass for the Goedgedacht Project in Malmesbury, South Africa.

Members of the Rotary Club of Ipswich Wolsey were successful in securing a District grant from The Rotary Foundation (the charitable arm of Rotary) to purchase carpets and artificial grass for the Goedgedacht Project in Malmesbury, South Africa. The children who attend the Goedgedacht Project pre-school have been born with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), which starts in the womb from their mother’s drinking. In recognition of this, the Project no longer grow grapes to make wine: instead all vines have been replaced with olive trees which are now farmed. Orthopaedic cushions, which help the children sit up and breath correctly, had been purchased previously and the carpets save the children having to sit on cold concrete floors and also prevent the cushions being damaged. The artificial grass enables the children to play outside and carry out activities in the sun.
