Twinning 2025

Twinning Visit To Bordeaux

Our Twinning Link With The Rotary Club Of Blanquefort En Medoc Was First Established In 2006. In 2024 The French Club Merged With Another And This Year Saw Our First Visit To The Newly Merged Rotary Club Of Bordeaux Les Jalles. Six Of Us Enjoyed Another Busy Round Of Social And Cultural Events In A Packed Weekend That Started Directly After Arrival At Merignac Airport.

Visitors And Hosts

Our Hosts Had Arranged A Visit To Chateau De La Brede – The Family Home Of Baron Charles-Louis De Secondat - Better Known As The Political Philosopher Montesquieu.

Montesquieu’s Political Theories On The Separation Of Powers Were Influencial In The Creation Of The American Constitution. What Is Less Well-Known Is The Link To Our Club In The Chew Valley And To The Village Of Pensford In Particular. Montesqieu Had Developed The Earlier Thinking Of British Philosopher John Locke Who Had Spent His Childhood In A House At Belluton, Pensford. What An Historic Coincidence!

The Weekend Included A Cruise On The Garonne, Wine-Tasting At Chateau Paloumey, Al Fresco Dining In Old Town Bordeaux And Lunch At The Cite Du Vin.

Vive L’entente Cordiale!
