Last weekend the Rotary Club of Chelwood Bridge played host to nine representatives of the Rotary Club of Bordeaux les Jalles in south-west France. On Saturday their visit to the City of Wells was marked by the outgoing 648th Mayor - Rotarian Steward Cursley - and by Town Crier Len Sweales. Just before making his traditional proclamations Town Crier Len entertained a large crowd in the Market Square with a special greeting to our French visitors who were led by Marie Rouquet (current President) and Chantal Gaidot (who will assume the presidency of the Jalles Club on 1 July). Then followed guided tours of Wells Cathedral and the Bishop’s Palace and Gardens.
back One of Rotary’s priorities is to work for peace and international understanding and another is to encourage social interaction between Rotary Clubs at home and overseas.
