The longer term vision is to position Redditch as a 'Green Town'. Best described as a loose association of cities focused on sustainability, the emerging 'green cities' movement encompasses thousands of urban areas around the world all striving to lessen their environmental impacts by reducing waste, expanding recycling, lowering emissions, increasing housing density while expanding open space, and encouraging the development of sustainable local businesses.
A fairer economy with opportunity for all fundamentally creates a culture and environment of peace. Conversations and action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources are needed. A commitment to peace-building today can answer new challenges on how we can make the greatest possible impact, achieving the vision of lasting change by approaching the concept of peace with greater cohesion and inclusivity.
The key question: Can this shift in thinking work in Redditch as we share ideas, knowledge and plans to develop Redditch as a Green Town?
