When late in 2012 the Comvoc committee was discussing the possibility of a Club "hands-on" project, Mike Harvey, after researching local needs, concluded that "loneliness and isolation" among the elderly was a serious community challenge in the City, and conceived the idea of bringing two generations together at Chichester College in an ongoing project calling it "Bridging Generations". The Club decided to give it a trial starting in March 2013 .
With about 12- 15 "elders " and 20 students meeting each fortnight at the College ,the project has taken off . At each meeting the main activity is lively and productive conversations between the generations. One elder ,"Jan" ,was quoted as saying "at this meeting I dont feel old anymore !" and a student Tutor ,"Sandy", said " a great idea to bring together students with their elders in a relaxed setting - highly educational !"
Both the College and its students as well as the elders benefit: each meeting lasts for an hour and a quarter 10.45-12 noon every other Tuesday in term time Limited transport is available on request
More elders and Rotarians are all welcome to attend .Please let Mike know you might be coming (use "Contact us" at top)
