Vouchers to help some Abington school pupils
We have recently helped facilitate a project in Abington. What happens to pupils who receive free school meals in the school holidays???
Abington residents, school, shop have come up with a voucher system to enable parents to get food from village shop by a voucher system. Miles Craven who lives in the village came up with the idea to help local children, he also administrates everything.
No charities would support them, so we got involved.
There are 31 pupils out of 135 students getting free school meals. They need to provide vouchers for school holidays:
Christmas 14 days
Easter 14 days
Summer 42 days
Vouchers can only be used at the village shop and does not cover-alcohol-cigarettes/vapes-power drinks-scratch cards-newspapers-magazines-stamps. the vouchers are based on £5 per lunch.
The money is held by PCC and is wring-fenced.
All details are private. No one except Miles knows all the details- so even donors dont know each other-the school hand out the vouchers. So there is no stigma.
A wonderful way to support the Community.
