The Cambridge Rapist

Talk by Rot. John Martin

This week our speaker was Rtn. John Martin,
He told us of his time as a Special Constable in the times of the Cambridge Rapist
John was a special constable for 10 years and was always worked as a pair.
All leave was cancelled!!!
The first attack was 28th October in Homerton College He struck at about 2ish in the morning, he often wore a hood with Rapist on the front of it, Sometimes he dressed as a woman but always operated carrying a kniffe,
The case attracted National press interest. So much so Vivienne Westwood made T shirts about the Rapist.
Police began to think the man was local, travelled by bike for speed of getaway, He never broke in, had key copies of all his victims.
They began to suspect the rapist was prolific burglar Samuel Cook. He was a married man who lived in caravan in Hardwick. It appeared he got all his info by working as a delivery driver,
Samuel was arrested after his 6th attack was at the Nures Home in Newnham.
Cook received 2 life sentences, and never get released.
He died in Winchester Jail at the age of 74 from natural causes.

John eventually became a Magistrate.
