Anna Visits Calvert Trust

North Fylde Rotary recently sponsored two people to spend five days at the Calvert Trust Centre in Keswick. The fortunate couple were Michelle and her 17-year-old daughter Anna who has Downs syndrome. The is an opportunity for those with all sorts of different problems to get together in an informal holiday setting and to have new and exciting experiences.

Anna who attends Highfurlong School Blackpool formed part of a group who took part in a variety of new activities and benefited greatly from widening their outlook on life... Weather permitting most of the activities took place outdoors. They went kayaking, cycling, walking and tried their hands at archery. They learned to cook their food outdoors and none of them came to any harm. They walked across a rope bridge and when the weather was bad, climbed an indoor wall. Anna’s particular favourite was a zipwire which was a first for them all. Evenings were spent playing games, chatting, and listening to music.

At the end of their 5 days stay all agreed that they had enjoyed themselves immensely (including the accompanying adults). They returned home having made new friends and enriched with a wider view on life. Both Mother and daughter felt that their few days together with the others at the Centre was an experience they would not have missed for the world.
