Philip John Whitworth

It is with great sadness that we record the death of Past President Philip John Whitworth who passed away following a period of illness on 6th August 2024 at the age of 79. He leaves his wife Muriel, his family Timothy and Olga with grandchildren Ethan, Nefeli and Evelina, Johnathon, Stephanie and grandson Henry.
Philip was born in Birmingham in February 1945. His parents moved to Manchester when he was five. Following the death of his father, his mother remarried and they moved to Blackpool in 1961. Shortly after this Philip started work as a Bank Clerk with the Trustee Savings Bank in Blackpool where he stayed until moving to work at the ICI plant in Thornton Cleveleys, in the export shipping department in 1968.
A member and past Chairman of Thornton Cleveleys Round Table. He was a founder member of the Rotary Club of North Fylde in 1987 and served for many years as the Club Service Chairman along with many other positions within the club. He was President of the Club in 2001-02.
Philip was known throughout his life as a bon viveur. He enjoyed good food and wine. Muriel and Philip were renowned for their dinner parties and excellent hosting. They were very active in visiting firstly Round Table Clubs and then Rotary Clubs throughout Europe and the UK and spent a lot of time with their family at their holiday home in Tenerife
Following retirement Philip was also an active member of Poulton le Fylde Probus Club.
