The Newark Castle Rotary Club held their annual Charity Fundraising Golf Day Thursday 29th July at the usual venue of Rufford Park Golf Club. As well as the use of their excellent facilities and course they provided us with an equally excellent post match meal.
As last year the weather held fair most of the day other than one short spell of rain which did nothing to dampen the spirit of the day. The 13 teams taking part were doing battle for a number of prizes including best team, nearest the pin and longest drive. The winning team with a score of 95 points was Sam Slack, Peter Overton, Jim Sterland and Andy Fereday; Runner up were Trevor Bell, Andy Sims, Dave Halford and Colin Boulter; in Third place, which was decided on count back, Carol Houghton Simon Houghton, Reg Lumbis and Wayne Eccles. The mens longest drive competion was won by Richard Lawless and ladies by Bernie Barton. Similarly the nearest the pin competition for the men was won by Andrew Cainen and for the ladies by Carole Sutton.A raffle was also held on the day which was proved very popular, either that or it was due to the persuasive powers of Rotarian Graham who was in charge of selling raffle tickets, contributed to a very successful and enjoyable day.Our thanks firstly to Rufford Park Golf Club for hosting the event, Ken Sutton for organising the event who in turn was supported by his admin team of Mac Mallard, Graham McFarlane and Andy Fereday and finally to Helen Haycox for raising numerous teams who took part.more Rotary Club of Newark Castle held its annual golf day on 23rd September 2021 at Rufford Park Golf and Country Club.
