What is the Memorial & Community fund?

The Rotary Club of Newark Castle has set up the Godfrey Pratt Memorial & Community Fund to distribute grants to local charities and good causes for the benefit of the Local Community in the NG24 post code area and parts of NG23.

The objective of the fund is to:

• Work together to improve the lives of the local community
• Encourage and support community involvement
• Offer access to funds by local voluntary groups and individuals with clearly identified needs

How does it work?

Any Voluntary or Community Organisation, Group or Individual in the NG24 post code area and designated villages in the NG23 post code area can apply for a grant.

NG23 villages are Kelham, Averham, Elston, East Stoke, North Muskham and Collingham

Applications from other Voluntary or Community Organisation, Group or individual outside the identified NG23 catchment area may be considered on their merits.

Grant applications can be made available to a wide variety of small groups or individuals in the community. It is anticipated this funding will often compliment other funding sources.  

Who can apply?

• Youth work and activities
• Sports groups
• Pre-schools
• Elderly or Disabled
• Health and Social Care
• Conservation and the Environment
• The Local Community

Applications will not normally be considered from national organisations or those that are profit making, political or operate outside of the defined Newark area.

Applications can be made for specific projects or activities within the defined Newark area by organisations outside the defined area.

Applications will not be considered to a funded organisation in lieu of normal income.

What are The Fund panel looking for?

Applicants should ask themselves the following questions:

Need - Is there a real need for this project or activity? Does the project or activity really improve the lives of local residents or is it just nice to have

Own Efforts - What efforts have been made to raise the funds before making the application? How much has been raised towards the cost of the project or activity?

Difference - How much more is needed to make the project or activity a reality? Will the award enable the project or activity to be carried out

Challenge - How challenging is the project or activity? How much extra effort is needed to turn the award into reality?

Reference - Is there someone of standing that can support your application?

Who was Rotarian Godfrey Pratt?

Godfrey a dedicated Newark Castle Rotarian for 27 years passed away in August 2012 aged 90 years. During his Rotary life Godfrey was a founder member of Newark Castle, Past President and Paul Harris Fellow. Godfrey was passionate about supporting the Local Community and as such bequeathed a legacy to be managed by Newark Castle officials to help local charities and good causes.
