The best selling author talks to the club about Jane Austen

Hungerford Rotary Club Welcomes Gill Hornby

Gill Hornby, author and Kintbury resident, has kindly agreed to address members of Hungerford Rotary Club and their guests and visitors after supper on 19th January 2026 at the Bear Hotel.

Gill will be known to many as a journalist and the author of The Hive, her debut novel published in 2013 which went straight into the top ten best seller list.  She followed this with a second novel All Together Now that was published in 2015 and which the Daily Telegraph described as, ‘a sparkling comedy of manners’.

Historical fiction then attracted her and in 2020, Miss Austen was published to critical acclaim.  The book retells the life of Jane Austen from the perspective of her sister Cassandra and has been developed by the BBC into a four-part television series.

A resident of Kintbury for more than 30 years, Gill will be talking about Jane Austen and her links with West Berks.  If you would like to join-in, please contact Rtn Myles Young on myles@amtecs.co.uk to book a place for yourself and your guests.
