Hungerford Repair Café 15th November 2025
Hungerford’s Repair Café returned to the Croft Hall on Saturday 15th November, welcoming a steady stream of visitors keen to give their broken household items a new lease of life. Volunteers assessed 53 items, successfully repairing 37 on the day, with a further 8 earmarked for more detailed follow-up work.
Visitors enjoyed refreshments from the Café, including hot drinks, biscuits and homemade cake, while waiting for a volunteer to become available. Most left delighted with the results, even when the item in question was beyond our help. One attendee said, “Rob was fantastic – really friendly and knowledgeable and efficient at figuring out what was wrong with the vac and able to fix it. Thank you so much!!” Another first-time visitor commented, “What a great example of volunteers in action! Thank you for my repair - a coffee grinder that my parents had many decades ago.” And in a celebratory moment, a guest exclaimed, “Woo-hoo. Vic made my black TV screen light up.”
In total, the event prevented an estimated 63 kilograms of goods from being recycled prematurely or ending up in landfill—a strong reminder of the environmental impact small community efforts can have.
Repair Cafés help build a culture of repair rather than replacement—encouraging people to extend the life of household items, reduce waste, and gain confidence in maintenance and fixing skills. They foster community spirit, connect people with local expertise, and highlight sustainable choices that are accessible to everyone.
Hungerford Repair Café will open its doors again on January 17th 2026 at 10:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Croft Hall. If you want to know more or if you would like to find out about volunteering with us, email us at hungerfordrepaircafe@gmail.com
