Sarah Annable-Gardner gave an excellent talk to our club this evening

Hungerford Rotary Club was pleased to welcome back Sarah Annable-Gardner to its meeting on 20th October.  Sarah, from Chilton Foliat, is Chief Executive of the charity Action Through Enterprise that she set-up in 2012 after a stint working in Ghana for Voluntary Service Overseas.
Her charity works with 10 schools in Lawra in Upper West Ghana, providing meals, educational resources and sanitary products that enable pupils to learn on full stomachs and with dignity.  It has backed 140 small businesses with grants, training and mentoring, enabling them to become sustainable and profitable and is bringing disabled children into the light, challenging stigma and enabling them to learn and laugh.
Hungerford Rotary Club has provided funding over the last couple of years and Sarah brought the Club up to date with how its money has been spent and how the Charity as a whole has developed.  It now operates in two regions in Ghana bringing its benefits to about 100,000 people and is planning an extension to a third region. She also introduced the club her book "To Lawra with love" which tell her story of her work in Ghana.
Hungerford Rotary Club’s President Nick Wedgwood said, ‘In Rotary, we donate the money that we raise to effective and efficient charities and Action Through Enterprise is a perfect example of what we look for’.
