Walking Paddy Waddell's Railway

Exploring Paddy Waddell's Railway

Paddy Waddell's Railway was never completed but many earthworks can still be seen. It was intended to convey ironstone from the moors to the blast furnaces but didn't attract the funds it needed. It was to run for 10.5 miles from Lingdale Junction south of Skelton (grid ref NZ 691 172) to a junction with the Picton to Grosmont branch of the North Eastern Railway (grid ref NZ 778 064) a short distance north-north-west of Glaisdale station.
