GRAND FINALE SPONSORED WALKSunday 7 September, 2014 |
It is difficult to realise that it is 14 years
since we saw Sir Nigel Gresley at Grosmont. We decided to take this last
opportunity to see what was on shed there this year. We have made many friends
over the years and are very grateful to all those who have joined us in raising
funds for many good causes. Thank you and continue to enjoy your walking over
these beautiful moors!
Our base camp is at the car park beside the Catholic Church at Egton Bridge. We
take the Toll Road towards Grosmont and then turn off right to cross a
footbridge over the river Esk. We climb up to Lease Rigg and down to join the
Rail Trail on the original Pickering to Whitby railway. Follow this Trail to
Beck Hole; the Family Walk (7 miles)
turns back here and goes on the Rail Trail to
Grosmont and then on the Toll Road back to our start point. The Long Walk
(9½ miles) does a loop from Beck Hole to take in the 70 foot high Mallyan
Spout waterfall and Goathland village of Heartbeat TV fame. Mallyan Spout is
spectacular, particularly if there has been recent rain. A map of the routes is
shown below.
This year we are walking in aid of both a number of good causes and individual people in need locally. We also support Rotary International with their humanitarian work worldwide.
