Members of Senlac St Leonards Rotary club received a very warm welcome from the crew of Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat (PLIRB) when they visited their base on Sunday, 29th March. The club was invited to visit as a thank you for a donation the club has made to PLIRB to help with the construction of a new boat house. The club was given a tour of the temporary boat house, the new site for the boat house and the operations room; they were also able to watch the two rescue boats on exercise and the beaching of the craft. A really interesting visit to such a dedicated team.
Sadly, the engine on the smaller boat broke down the week before and whether a repair or a new engine will be needed is under investigation; whichever it will mean another large expense for PLIRB on top of cost of the new boat house. Although they work in conjunction with the RNLI and are frequently called out in support, they are not part of RNLI and receive no funding from that charity, they are financially on their own. The service they perform is vital to maritime safety and the area they serve, our own local area, is a much safer place with their presence. Any help they can get would be very gratefully received, if you could help see https://www.plirb.org/
