2023 Classic Car Show Donation Presentation

Senlac Rotary had great pleasure in donating proceeds from this year’s Classic Car Show and Craft Fayre to three local charities during its meeting at the Highwoods Golf Club, Bexhill, on 9^thAugust. The Car Show was held in June at the Rye Rugby Club and, despite the weather, raised over £7,000; the show, the 28^th, was the first after a three-year gap, at a new venue and in a smaller format. Among the guests were Francesca Clent from the Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital, Dulcie Newbold from Demelza and Jeremy Nobbs, the Secretary of Rye Rugby Club, and his wife Lesley.

Senlac Rotarian Dave Miles who organised the car show made the presentations said, ”The weather could have been kinder for us on the day but still proved to be a success at the new venue and there were many positive comments”. He continued by thanking all those involved in the organisation and helping to make the show a success.

Francesca received the donation on behalf of Rye Hospital saying, “It’s a very generous donation and we will use it to improve the garden at the hospital for the patients use.” Dulcie received the donation on behalf of Demelza, “Thank you so much, we deliver extraordinary care to extraordinary children facing serious or life-limiting conditions. It costs about £60m a year to run the charity and we only get about 16% funding from the government, this money will be a wonderful help.” The final donation was to the club’s own charity, The Yellowmen. Eddie McCall the organiser, said, “The money will go towards the maternity unit we have just set up in Mbarra, West Pokot, Kenya, the area we work in. We have a massive sanitation and health project that we are undertaking there”.

After the presentations Dave said, “When I pass over the donations to the charities it makes me so happy and makes all the work worthwhile. It’s why I carry on with the organisation of the show.”’
