were inducted into Senlac Rotary Club on Wednesday, 27th
February.
Sheila is of an age commensurate with retirement and was widowed some
nine years ago. Born in south east London she spent most of her life in the
Croydon area where she ran a small payroll bureau, finance having always been
her background.. Six years ago she decided to move to Bexhill and relocated her
business to Hastings where she continues to practise with her business partner
who decided to move with the business. Sheila was previously a Rotarian at RC
Wallington, near Croydon, during which time she served as Treasurer and
President but, on moving to Bexhill, Sheila decided to have a break from
Rotary. She had met and become friends with Senlac Rotarian Chris Folley who
invited her to come back to Rotary but Sheila decided she would wait until she
felt the time was right. Not long ago she told Chris she now wanted to rejoin
Rotary and decided to join the Senlac Club where a few years ago she had
visited and spoken about a boxing event her then club, Wallington, had put on
as a fundraiser. Sheila enjoys the ethos and fellowship of Rotary but she also
enjoys socialising as a social member at Gullivers Bowls Club at the Waterfront.
To relax Sheila likes reading, word puzzles and all sorts of music.
Andrew (Andy) Cruttenden was also inducted as a member of the Rotary Club of
Senlac on Wednesday, 27th February. He and his wife, Angela, have been long
term friends with Rotarian Geoff and Sally Gander and it has been Geoff’s
ambition to get Andy to join the club as soon as he could. With Andy and
Angela’s move to Bexhill last July came the opportunity for Geoff to pursue and
succeed in his ambition and it was a rather emotional Geoff who sponsored Andy.
Andy is no stranger to the club, he has been a regular helper at the car show
for a number of years.
Andy, now 60, was born in Five Ashes, East Sussex, where he
lived there for 27 years completing his education at Heathfield Secondary
School. Andy was employed as a manager for Bishops’ Services, a commercial
cleaning company based in Crowborogh, from the early 1980’s and stayed with the
company for 34 years until the company closed two years ago. He worked there alongside Angela who
was the office manager. Andy said, “Geoff had told me all about Rotary and had
persuaded me to help out at the car show. When we moved to Bexhill I decided to
join because I want to meet people and become involved with the various things
they do.” Andy is interested in sport, reading, cookery and travel and it goes
without saying his family. Andy and Angela have a son and three grandchildren
who live in Hailsham.
We welcome you both as new members of Senlac.
