Rotary Youth Leadership Award - Bexhill Explorers Group

Wed, Feb 1st 2017 at 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Chloe Upton, Eric Davis and their leader Grant Docksey of 3rdBexhill Explorers Group were the guests at the meeting on 1 February 2017. Fifteen year old Chloe and sixteen year old Eric had been sponsored by the Rotary Club of Senlac to take part in the 3 day Rotary Youth Leadership Award course held near Rochester in October last year. Chloe and Eric gave a presentation of their experiences and what they had learned as a result. The course started with the icebreaker “Remember my name and my animal” before moving into team games and activities based on learning to trust others, communication and leadership. They were also required to research one of the Rotary supported charities and prepare and make a presentation on that particular charity.

Both were very enthusiastic about the course and said they had learned skills and gained confidence in themselves as a result of attending. Eric already leads a team at college and feels this course will enable him to manage better now and in the future. Chloe can see the benefits she has gained helping her in her hoped for career of teaching.

They both said they had vaguely heard of Rotary before the course but now they realise the size of the organisation, its worldwide connections and the support it provides across the world. There is little doubt that they are Rotary Ambassadors now and for the future – exactly what Rotary needs.

Mike Styles in his vote of thanks congratulated them on giving such confident presentation in front of what was quite a daunting audience!
