Wednesday July 1 st saw the start of the new Rotary year when it’s all change with
Presidents, officers and committee chairs. Senlac St Leonards Club is no different
and, on that day at a club dinner held at Highwoods Golf Club Bexhill, the changes
took place. Some 40 people attended; joining members and their guests were
special guests Graham Forster on his first day as District Governor, Assistant District
Governor Andy Cruttenden and past Senlac St Leonards Rotarians.
Following dinner and a few words from the District Governor, outgoing President,
Terry Mahindrakar, passed over the President’s chain to the club’s new President,
Colin Goldsack who then introduced his new team. Colin thanked Terry for her year
of office and for her resilience in facing the various problems that had occurred in her
year. He said the club had faced many challenges over the last few years but with
challenges there are opportunities which should be seized where they benefit the
club. He continued, “We know one of the challenges is resourcing manpower; we
need to work with other clubs, organisations and communities to share these
resources to the best effect.” Colin referred to the change in the club’s working
practice, “My intention is that we use the revised organisation to give everyone in the
club the opportunity to participate, in discussion, decision making and project work,
where every member knows they are an integral part of the club and a valued
member”.
One of Colin’s priorities is to work with and try to improve the lives of children and
young people. During Covid a colleague and he ran a project involving young
carers, “Their stories were tear-jerking and emotional, they were losing out on their
childhood because of family needs but never complained. I was so impressed by
what these youngsters did and the sacrifices they made that I have chosen East
Sussex Young Carers to be my President’s Charity for the coming year.”
Colin thanked everyone for their support in the run up to this year and said he would
do his utmost to serve the club well.
The evening was not over as Colin performed his first official duty of his year by
presenting Rotarian Jimmy Carroll with a well-deserved Paul Harris Fellowship.
The new President of the Rotary Club of Senlac St Leonards is Colin Goldsack.
Colin, a life time resident of Hastings, attended Hastings Grammar School before
joining the Civil Service. Since his retirement he has been actively involved with local
organisations; he is President of the local National Trust Supporters group,
Chairman of the Mermaid Bowls League, a past president of St Leonards Bowls Club
and he was a health walk leader at Church Wood for some 18 years. Colin joined
Senlac Rotary Club in 2014 when he took over the press and publicity post, a post
he still holds.
He was installed at a club dinner held at the Highwoods Golf Club, Bexhill, on July
1st . Some 40 members and guests, including the newly appointed District Governor,
Graham Forster, attended. Outgoing President, Terry Mahindrakar, passed over the
chain of office to Colin wishing him well for the coming year. Colin, accepting the
chain, said, “We know one of the challenges is resourcing manpower and members;
we need to work with other clubs, organisations and communities to share these
resources to the best effect.” He continued, “For me, a major priority is to take on
projects involving youth and children. During Covid a colleague and I organised the
Young Covid Hero Award for the then Senlac club; the young carers’ stories were
tear-jerking and emotional, they were losing out on their childhood because of family
needs but never complained. I was so impressed by what these youngsters did and
the sacrifices they made that I have chosen East Sussex Young Carers to be my
President’s Charity for the coming year.”
