Bryan Hunter, a member of the Bexhill based Rotary Club of Senlac St Leonards,
was taken by surprise when, following the President’s Night dinner on Friday,22 May
he was presented with a special recognition award by the club’s President, Terry
Mahindrakar. “This award is special because it’s not an award for work within Rotary
but for what Bryan has done in the wider community,” said Terry announcing the
award. ”This is for Bryan’s tireless work in supporting Veterans, in particular raising
monies for the Poppy Appeal. Over the course of many years Bryan has raised
thousands of pounds for the appeal. His devotion and dedication to this cause is a
prime example of Rotary’s ‘Service above Self’ and I am so pleased to present Bryan
with a Paul Harris Fellowship”. The Paul Harris Fellowship is in recognition of the
founder of Rotary, Paul Harris, clubs award it to people who have shown
exceptional service to Rotary or to the community as a whole.
Bryan was speechless when the award was announced, “I don’t know what to say, I
never expected this it’s a total surprise but thank you so much.” Brian has been
collecting for the Poppy Appeal for over 30 years and he reckons in that time he has
raised around £500,000, a remarkable achievement. Bryan is a familiar figure every
October and November manning the sales table with his colleagues at Tesco Extra
in St Leonards.
