Calverley Rotary Supports Aqua Box appeal

The Rotary Club of Calverley continues to support the Aqua Box appeal by donating more Aqua boxes to their warehouse. Update of work completed by the Aqua Box team.

The Rotary Club of Calverley recently purchased a number of Rotary Aquaboxes for use in disaster areas
Below is the latest update of where they have been delivered to.
This is the first of a new format newsletter to help keep you informed of shipments, disasters response updates, and general Aquabox news.
The response of our supporters and volunteers over the last 12 months has been amazing. Despite challenges with current shipping lanes being closed and global politics conspiring to impact on our disaster responses, we have sent out aid to many areas including Ukraine, Syria & Turkey.
Aquaboost, our most ambitious project to double production of the family filters, was completed in March. Your continued support and donations will help us to build up stocks and keep our life saving aid flowing out of the door.
Rapid Response....In the aftermath of a disaster, access to clean drinking water is often one of the first priorities. Following closely is the need for shelter. Our Aqua-Aid box contains a family water filter for instant clean drinking water and over 40 items to help a family group with daily needs.
Getting this aid quicky around the world can be time consuming so a few years ago we set up a strategic stock of Aqua-Aid boxes on the ground in Nepal. With the help of the Gurkha Regiments, and the Nepalese fire service, the pre-positioned aid in Kathmandu can be on the site of an earthquake or flood in hours, as happened in January this year.
We are in touch regularly with Nepal so new Aqua-aid boxes are sent to keep stock on the ground, to meet demand in an area of the world where earthquakes are a regularly occurring event. It can take four months for shipments to arrive, so we built up stock and in May sent a shipment of 200 Aqua-aid boxes, 20 Community and 240 family filters to replenish the stock used in the January earthquake and flooding.

This shipment arrived safely in Kathmandu in late August and a number of the boxes will be immediately deployed into the Thame region where there were recent landslides and flooding.
Syria – 250 Aqua-Aid boxes, 240 family filters and 20 community filters
Left 25th July
Yemen – 250 Aqua-aid boxes and 480 family filters.
Left 2nd August.
Ukraine – 240 family filters and 20 community filters
Left 21st August.
Aquabox is unusual as a Charity because we actually manufacture the water filters that we send all over the world.
