Members of The Rotary Club of Calverley filled two large boxes with over £50.00 of food for the Trussell Trust Leeds West Foodbank.
The club and the members have pledged that they will donate at least £50.00 of food per month for the next 12 months to help alleviate poverty and hunger in the west of the city through The Trussell Trust.
The Foodbank which operates out of St. Peter’s Church in Bramley serves Swinnow, Armley, Bramley, Rodley, Stanningley, Pudsey Farsley and Calverley.
After 4 successful months of delivering food to the Trussell Trust Foodbank, members of Calverley Rotary Club unanimously agreed to increase the monthy donation to £100 for the remaining 8 months.
The food boxes will be delivered by Rotarian John Procter BEM, whose wife Maria volunteers at the Trussell Trust West Leeds food bank each week.In September we were joined by Danni Robertshaw who was the Rotary Club of Calverley RYLA (Rotary Youth Leader Award) Candidate and she and her sister assited Carole our President and Rotarian Laura Gilroy fill the two boxes for the Trussell Trust West Leeds Food Bank.
In October Last night we had the CEO Karen Burgon, Leeds North and West Foodbank to give us a talk on how the Trussell Trust Foodbanks started in the UK and gradually spread through the country .
From April 2023 to March 2024 Trussell Trust Food Banks in Leeds have given out 32,936 emergency parcels to people in Leeds
• 12,379 of these were provided for children.•It’s not right that people in our community are needing a charity’s help to put food on the table. Everyone in Leeds should be able to afford the essentials.
