Carnival in the Park

Calverley Rotary club were delighted to be in the Calverley Carnival Parade and later play games in the park to raise money for local causes.

The Rotary Club of Calverley were delighted to be invited by Shelley Falconburger Edwards to take part in this years Calverley Carnival and Parade. Shelley has a family connection to the Rotary Club as her mother-in-Law Carol Edwards was a longstanding and valued member of the club.

Rotarians armed with flags and leaflets took part in the long Parade of local clubs around the park, taking the opportunity to hand out leaflets to the crowd. The Parade ended in the Carnval arena where local businesses and organisations, including Rotary, had stalls.

During the afternoon the crowds were entertained by local dance and gymnastics groups and live music kept the carnival spirit going.

The Rotary Club spent the afternoon talking to carnival goers about Rotary, to encourage more members and volunteers for the club. They also ensured carnival goers were able to take 'selfie's' on the President's chair wearing the President's chain of office.

To join in the carnival spirit other Rotarian's manned a golf-darts game, which also raised funds for local causes. Young and old enjoyed testing their skills on the game, with high scorers winning prizes. In true Rotary Spirit no one left empty handed and all who took part won some sweets to keep their energy up. We look forward to taking part in next year's Carnival.
