Paul Bignold is exemplary! Not only did he organise a great walking route today but somehow managed to control the weather! At 7.00 am it was still chucking it down and we had had continuous rain all night. The rain had stopped and by the time we started walking it was dry, quite mild but underfoot very wet and extremely muddy. From The Rising Sun (true) he led us in a loop round to the River Stour at Plucks Gutter. We followed the river down a bit and that is where a couple of ducks appeared to ask if they could join up? Paul was clearly looking for paths and tracks with the muddiest of puddles and he found them. We came across a large Stud Farm in the middle of nowhere and one had to wonder how they managed for electrical power with many floodlights apparent. It is always good to walk occasionally and have the opportunity to chat to many others. We passed along the long edge of a large apple orchard and some of us can confirm the fruit was delicious. Crispy, sweet and juicy; incomparable to French apples one is offered in our supermarkets! The 'piece de resistance' was the unmarked crossing of a newly ploughed field. Imagine how heavy the mud was! We all made it and were soon back at the Rising Sun in time for lunch. The pub looked after us very well indeed. Food excellent, very comfortable and friendly first-class service. A day well spent thank you Paul and Anni.
By 6pm it was raining again!
